Ovarian Reserve Testing
|
|
To help evaluate the effects of the biologic clock on
your fertility, Dr. McLaughlin may request ovarian reserve testing
for you to help you determine whether you wish to pursue IVF
with your eggs (hopefully!) or donor egg/embryo. Three blood
tests may be drawn in day 3 of the menstrual cycle: FSH,
Estradiol (E2), and Inhibin B. If the FSH level is less than 15, the E2 is
less than 40, and the Inhibin B level is greater than 30, you should respond to
fertility medication to recruit and mature eggs. If these tests are
equivocal, additional testing may require a Clomid Challenge Test
(CCT). This involves vaginal ultrasonic scanning with the day 3
FSH and E2 to detect how many follicles are available to be
stimulated. Clomid is then taken orally day 5-9, with a repeat FSH
taken on day 10. If the FSH levels are above 22, Dr. McLaughlin
has had no ongoing pregnancies after ART, and you may be
advised to consider donor egg, embryo adoption, or traditional
adoption. We at the Follas Center feel very strongly that you
should be encouraged to spend your money wisely on procedures
that are most likely to work. Dr. McLaughlin and his staff want to
help you become parents the best way that you can, and will
discuss your options in a compassionate manner, taking your
individual needs into account.
